About Shane

Born November 30th, 1980, in Wailuku, Hawaii, Shane Victorino became the second native of Maui to play in the major leagues. As an outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies, Shane, also known as the “Flyin’ Hawaiian,” is blessed with lightning quick speed and a dynamic switch hitting bat. His tremendous athleticism allows him to play all three outfield positions, with most of his playing time coming in centerfield.

Shane is a 1999 graduate of St. Anthony’s High School in Maui and was drafted right out of high school in the 6th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He switched teams and went to the Padres via the Rule 5 draft in 2002 and made his major league debut for them on April 2nd, 2003.

He soon returned to the Dodgers and was then another Rule 5 draftee in 2004, this time by the Philadelphia Phillies. He spent most of 2005 playing for the Phillies AAA farm club and was named International League MVP. In 2006, he moved up the ranks and saw plenty of action for the Phillies, posting a .287 average with 8 triples, 6 homers, and 4 steals in 153 games (started 79).
